Currently, Dallas Area Chess-in-Schools only provides chess instructors for schools within the Dallas Independent School District. First of all, there are not enough instructors currently available for all the DISD schools who would like one, and, second, one of the main ideas behind DACIS is to help students from low-income families have an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills through playing chess and, as a result, improve their scholastic performance in general. So many students in DISD schools fall into this category, so this is where DACIS focuses its attention.

The Dallas Chess Club Web site is a good place to find the names of instructors you might be interested in. Also, there is a children's chess class taught almost every Saturday morning at the Dallas Chess Club. Look on it's club calendar for more details.

: Hello,
: I have a 1st Grader and a 6th Grader who are very interested in learning to play chess. They attend St. Rita Catholic School. How can I get them involved in this chess school? Will they be able to attend chess classes even though they do not go to any of the schools that are listed? When are the classes held, what time, and where are the classes held?

: Thank You,
: Mechelle Jeanne
